LET’S START WITH THE CAT IN FRONT OF YOU

A face you know.
A breed you wonder about.

Wondering “what type of cat is this?” starts with details: a fluffy tail, oversized ears, a silky coat, or unusual markings. Our identifier compares visible clues with reviewed cat profiles and suggests appearance matches.

Explore a rescue cat’s look or satisfy a moment of curiosity. Tabby describes a coat pattern, not a breed. Familiar resemblance does not establish ancestry. Results include alternatives and limits, leaving room for uncertainty.

FROM PHOTO TO POSSIBILITIES

Three steps. One curious cat.

Let’s find out
01

Pick a clear photo

Visual identification is an estimate, not a DNA test. Show one cat’s face and coat in good light. Upload from your device, drag a file into the box, or use your phone’s camera.

02

Look for the little clues

The image is sent to DeepSeek to compare visible features. This site processes it in memory and does not save a copy.

03

Meet the possible matches

Explore a leading match, two alternatives, and three visual observations. Use the breed notes to understand similarities before drawing conclusions.

A MATCH, WITH A LITTLE CONTEXT

Resemblance is a clue.
It isn’t the whole story.

The confidence bars show relative similarity among three selected profiles. They are normalized to total 100%; a 92% score does not mean your cat is 92% Maine Coon or has a 92% chance of being purebred.

Lighting, pose, and overlapping features can change a match. Another photo may help you compare, but cannot establish ancestry. The catalog covers 20 breeds and two domestic coat categories, not every possible cat.

GOOD QUESTIONS, HONEST ANSWERS

A little more
before you upload.

Curiosity is welcome.
So is a healthy bit of skepticism.

Can you tell a cat’s breed from a photo?

A photo reveals similarities in coat, face, ears, and proportions. It cannot confirm pedigree or a genetic mix. Treat the result as an appearance comparison. Adoption records and documented parentage may provide more context.

What if my cat is a mixed breed?

Domestic Shorthair and Domestic Longhair describe coat categories, not registered breeds. These options mean an ordinary house cat need not be assigned a pedigree breed. Similar markings do not prove shared ancestry.

Is this really free, and do I need an account?

Yes. No registration, subscription, or app download. Photo analysis is limited to 5 requests per IP address per hour and 50 requests site-wide per 24 hours. People sharing a connection share the per-IP allowance.

What kind of photo works best?

Show one cat’s face, ears, body, and tail in natural light. Avoid filters and heavy shadows. Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP up to 8 MiB and 40 megapixels. Larger originals are resized in your browser for the 3 MiB API limit. Export HEIC as JPEG first.

Can the result tell me about health or allergies?

No. Appearance cannot diagnose illness, predict temperament, or establish allergy safety. Ask a veterinarian about health concerns. DNA tests answer different questions and have their own limits; photo matching cannot replace genetic testing or professional advice.
