WHAT IS MY CAT · ABOUT

Curiosity, with honest limits.

Visual identification is an estimate, not a DNA test. What Is My Cat is an independent website for exploring a cat’s visible appearance. The site is operated under the What Is My Cat project name; questions reach its operator at the published contact address.

This is image-based appearance matching, not a DNA test. It cannot establish pedigree or make health judgments.

Appearance matching is not DNA testing

This is image-based appearance matching, not a DNA test. It cannot establish pedigree or make health judgments. A result is a set of visual comparisons, not a certificate of ancestry, a diagnosis, or proof of a seller’s claims.

How the comparison works

A server checks your image and creates a smaller metadata-stripped JPEG in memory. DeepSeek analyzes that image against the local catalog. The server validates returned profiles and observation identifiers before displaying controlled English explanations.

The three scores are normalized relative similarities. They are not genetic percentages or calibrated breed probabilities. Limited real tests confirmed that image requests and result formatting work; no statistically supported accuracy percentage is published.

Sources, corrections, and independence

The 20 pedigreed appearance profiles cite the Cat Fanciers’ Association. Two additional profiles describe domestic coat categories. Unverified prices, lifespans, temperament ratings, and health facts remain unpublished. A source link is a reference, not an endorsement.

If you find a misleading explanation or broken feature, email iohaoyu@163.com with the page address and a brief description. The site does not claim veterinary review or affiliation with a registry, insurer, DNA company, or the image-analysis provider.

Tools are educational aids

Age comparisons are approximate conventions. Weight estimates depend on an adult cat’s assessed body condition. Surgery planning uses quoted line items and clearly attributed price examples, not a universal or guaranteed bill. Ask a veterinarian about the decisions appropriate for your cat.
